Supercell Shuts Down Floodrush Development Due to Quality Standards Failure

Supercell is no stranger to discontinuing the development of its games, and once again they have announced that their latest strategy title, Floodrush, will be shut down. Despite being announced in May of this year, the fate of the game has already been determined within a short span of three months.

Floodrush was Supercell’s take on the Battle Royale genre

The Floodrush universe differed from the Clash universe in of its characters and gameplay style, but it shared a similar concept to other battle royale games. In Floodrush, players would be grouped with seven others on an island and compete to be the sole survivor.

From May 29th to June 7th, there was a short period when the game Floodrush had a limited open beta test. I personally played it and noticed that while it possessed some of the appealing qualities typical of Supercell games, it fell short in of the innovative elements that Supercell usually aims for. Considering this, I wouldn't be surprised if Supercell decides to discontinue Floodrush.

Floodrush, being a mobile game, is not necessarily subpar; however, it fails to meet Supercell's quality criteria. The company stated this officially.

During the beta testing phase, we thoroughly examined all the messages received and found various problems related to gameplay mechanics, controls, character dynamics, and artistic aspects. After careful consideration, we realized that in order to maintain Supercell's high standards of quality, significant modifications were required for Floodrush. However, these changes would ultimately deviate too far from our original vision for the game.

In recent years, Supercell has been regularly discontinuing games like Rush Wars, Everdale, Clash Quest, and even Boom Beach Frontlines which was developed by a partner studio. Whenever they predict that a game won't have long-term popularity, Supercell decides to discontinue it. This also applies to Floodrush.
